The BBC have confirmed that a third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures – overseen by Russell T Davies – has been commissioned, and is expected to be broadcast in Autumn 2009.

Once again, Sarah Jane (the incomparable Elisabeth Sladen) will be accompanied by companions Rani and Clyde and her adopted son Luke, who will save civilisation again and again from a whole host of weird and wonderful alien beings.

The Sarah Jane Adventures has already seen Sarah and her gang defeat the Slitheen, the Sontarans and a range of freaky cultish nuns and a nasty clown.

A third series is a much-deserved reward for a superb production that at times betters Torchwood in the “best Doctor Who spinoff” stakes.

On when her character joins the series:
“Fairly near the start, after saying farewell to the third sidekick, I kind of have a bit of a nosey into the lives of the world-saving team and kind of butt my way in!”
